Unlike regular Swedish massage, Ashiatsu (ashi means foot and atsu means pressure )incorporates foot pressure from a therapist trained directly by Ruthie Piper Hardee, founder of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® (AOBT), and has been described as "the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet."

Ashiatsu is an ancient form of bodywork brought to us by Buddhist monks. It is an adaptation of an ancient form of barefoot massage that utilizes deep compression effleurage strokes to glide over the body.

During an AOBT session, a therapist stands above your body balancing themselves using two bars suspended from the ceiling while using their feet to apply pressure on the back and shoulders.

Gravitational force is combined with centrifugal and centripetal movements to bring about a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage.

Ashiatsu provides deep relaxation and stimulates the lymphatic system of the body while producing myofacial release. In this modality of massage, your therapist shares the massage table with you while employing proper draping techniques so that only the areas being worked are exposed. Overhead bars are used by the therapist to help with balance and to provide a way to regulate pressure onto the body.
