These extensions were irresponsibly attached- they're too long for her natural lashes to hold!

Also, look at the single length used.  Very un-natural and not flattering at all.  What a gloppy mess!

You can see how tiny her natural lashes are. Overburdening them with extensions that are clearly too long and heavy could make her natural lashes fall out prematurely.

Hello,

Be aware there are many places that will charge you a cheap rate. Don't get suckered in because of inexpensive fees. It's about education, experience and knowledge. Don't let them damage your lashes by clumping them together. Lashes that are glued/clumped together, fall out together and you end up getting what you didn't want and that is -- making your natural lashes fall out.

Look for someone that at least has been trained by an actual trained extensionist and not a dvd- though this too won't give you a guarantee that they're any good.( Look at my example above)

You should also get your lashes tinted as well, before they apply the extensions. This will help the extensions blend in with your natural lashes, but I digress.

Look for someone who won't attach the extensions down to your skin. You might end up with an allergic reaction. Properly applied lashes won't touch your skin at all. Make sure they use anti-wrinkle gel patches and not scotch tape, painters tape or anything tap- like against your skin (unless it is surgical paper tape) or else it will be painful and go into your eye or pull out your bottom lashes when removing the tape. You won't feel it either because your eyeball doesn't have any nerve endings but your eyes will end up being sore because the tape gets into your eyeball.

The reason why extensions are pricey is because it takes education, talent and experience to do what we do correctly. You wouldn't look for an inexpensive doctor, would you- that hasn't had hands on training or years of practice or successful operations? We use medical forceps for goodness sakes. There is a reason people ask for less-it's because they're STILL PRACTISING.

You shouldn't feel the extensions when you open your eyes. Your eyes shouldn't sting nor feel heavy. If the extensionist just leads you into a room w/out having you fill out any forms or talk to you at length about the extensions RUN.

I speak with my clients for at least half an hour- having them read the "Aftercare" instructions first. This helps lead the client into developing questions for me. The next page is an intake form for tinting. The third asks questions about your health, your habits, what your expectations and the look you are going for - if you want glamorous or conservative lashes, if length or thickness are important to you, perhaps both are equally important. The last pages are notes asks what products you use- a platform for which to talk with you about your lashes.

They should take before and after images of your lashes and after of your extensions. This protects both you and the extensionist. It protects you by showing what you walked in with, if the extensionist should apply them terribly. And it protects the extensionist because when you get these extensions on, you start believing you have always looked that good.

There are a ton more horrible extensionist's out there that learn from a DVD off of ebay than there are those that seek out extensive classes with hands-on training.

Will the terrible extensions look good? Take a look at this next image:

Yes, at first glance, they'll look good to the untrained eye. But take a closer look. See how there are clumps and flat globs of glue at the hairline? See how the glue is touching her skin? After a while, your own natural lashes give up because they are overburdened with lashes and glue. Then they'll probably start itching and annoying you because they're growing at different rates from one another, so much that you end up pulling them out because they itch. That won't look good and you'll look worse than when you walked in to get them (see damaged lashes below).

I hope this note doesn't come across in the wrong way. I have your lashes best interest in mind. I'm just very passionate about my work.

People have asked me, "Aren't you afraid of teaching your competition?" The answer to that is a flat out "No". The reason I have chosen to do so is because I would rather the student competitors know how to do it properly than to have them ruin client's lashes and thus, ruin the industry which I love being part of.

I beg you to find someone who really knows what she/he is doing. Don't just go for someone because they give you a good price.

Even the pricey ones do not necessarily know what they're doing either. I know that isn't any comfort but the best you can do is look at a lot of close up photographs.

I personally have very few people I would recommend. Like I said, applying these to clients lashes is difficult. I only trust perhaps seven to ten people on this great earth to apply these on me.

One extensionist I trust is located in Florida, another near Washington DC, the other in Portland, OR, one in Denver, CO and the other four are with me at our spa.

Be leery of websites that don't have close up samples of their work! Ask yourself, "why aren't they showing us close ups, what are they trying to hide?" Even worse is when the images they do show - are stock photos of Laura Lee's work!!!

People with trichotillomania (trich-pronounced trick)have a tendency to literally pull out their hair. They feel isolated and angry because they feel like no one else does what they do. People with trich may pull hair from their scalp, arms, legs, eyelashes, eyebrows, stomach, armpits, and pubic areas. There is treatment for trich. Anti-psychotic medications like Risperdal are very effective. Trich can cause muscle tiredness, carpal tunnel syndrome, bald patches, itching, dandruff, and scabs. People with trich often wear scarves, hats, sunglasses, shave their heads, wear long pants, long shirts, apply fake eyelashes, and draw on their eyebrows.

Trichotillomania is a chronic problem, meaning that although one can recover from it, there is currently no specific cure, although OCD medications are highly effective. It can be stubborn, but with proper treatment and persistence, picking and/or pulling hairs can be greatly reduced and even brought under control (often called "hibernation"). Clinicians who are specialized in treating this problem are not always easy to find, but do have the techniques and training to bring about substantial improvement. Some often-prescribed medications include Zoloft, Celexa (Citalopram), Prozac, Risperdal, and BuSpar.
